Planners and Portfolios
A Planner/Portfolio can be used for children and youth as a tool for organizing time, setting goals, and recording achievements. Parents and children may use the planner during weekly mentor meetings and children may track and record their experiences for later reference. This is a great tool for evaluating progress and recording achievements. The information collected in this binder will be invaluable when students are applying for employment or post high school education. Home school families who participate in "notebooking" will be able to add student created notebooks and journals to the student portfolio.

- Knickerbockers (ages 0-8): A simple planning binder may be used for children under 8 years old. The calendar section is very basic with monthly calendars. Children may fill in the name of the months and the days on the calendar for writing practice.
- Knights and Ladies of Liberty (ages 8-12): Children are encouraged to set new learning goals periodically. (Our family sets new goals quarterly). A weekly compass is added to the calendar section to help children transfer their goals and schedule specific activities during the week to help them accomplish them.
- Young Patriots of America (ages 12+): Record keeping during these years will provide valuable information as students apply for post-high school education.

Tab 1: Learning Goals:
- Quarterly Goals: Identify learning experiences for young children to participate in during the next three months. Include goals in each of the areas of heart, mind, might and strength.
- Knickerbockers: Remember that the joy of participation is the key at this age.
- Knights and Ladies of Liberty and Young Patriots: Children have reached the ages of accountability. They may ask a teacher or mentor to evaluate their work. Evaluations may be included in the portfolio in the "Awards and Recognition" section.
Tab 2: Calendars.
- Knickerbockers: Calendars for children under the age of 8 can be very simple. At this age, children can be introduced to the months, the days of the week, and how calendars are numbered. Perhaps one page for each month so children can write the numbers for the days of the month. They can record special events on their calendar, but their parents will maintain details for daily events on their calendar.
- Knights and Ladies of Liberty and Young Patriots:
- 3 Month Calendar: This provides a quick glance of weekly activities and other events such as field trips, family activities, neighborhood get-to-togethers, etc.
- Weekly Compass: At the beginning of the week, the weekly compass may be used to plan more detail and set learning goals for the week. This form may be used as a guide for the weekly mentor meeting. If you use a binder that allows inserts on the binder cover, you may choose to slip the Weekly Compass in the binder cover for easy visibility
